Hadrian's Wall Walk · 28 April 2024

The charity's three helicopters and four rapid response vehicles operate 365 days a year, with doctors and paramedics on board providing enhanced prehospital care to people across the entire North West region.

Story

At the end of April and into early May, our team of six will trudge / walk / yomp / hike / crawl - whatever you want to call it - from one side of the country to the other. Hadrian's Wall runs from Newcastle to Carlisle - a route of ~92 miles... so we're making it an even hundred and calling it a day.

'And why would you want to book five days off work to do that?' I suppose is a fair and reasonable question. Two reasons:

1. Well... why not?

2. To raise money for North West Air Ambulance

North West Air Ambulance is based out of Barton Airport - where two of the team fly light aircraft out of... and also work at.

Entirely unfunded by the government and NHS, North West Air Ambulance relies solely on donations from the public to carry out their incredible life-saving work. So in deciding which charity to raise money for on this walk, it was a no-brainer for the team.

The team, led by Steve Cooper - a trained pilot and RAF cadet instructor (who gets stuck under fences after wild misnavigation) - is also made up of Tom (likely to turn up hungover to a training walk), Chris (brings the best packed lunches), Nick (loves to faff) and Linzi (can't read a map). And best not to forget Laura (who's technically cheating because she has four legs).

Wish us luck!
