2022 wasn't a great year for me, my dad passed away in March and in August I was diagnosed with a grade 3, invasive ductal tumour in my breast. Unfortunately it had spread to my lymph nodes despite it being caught early on a routine mammogram. This meant two operations, 6 months of chemotherapy followed by radiotherapy. My treatment took almost a year in total with my last radiotherapy session in July last year. At the end of my treatment I was unable to walk up even a small hill without gasping for breath and yet there is no rehabilitation provided by the NHS. Fast forward to 2024 and I was put in touch with the amazing people who run the Team Phoenix Foundation. They work with women like me who have had breast cancer, taking them from wherever they are at in their recovery journey and however unfit [I was very] and train them to complete a triathlon. All the training, support and necessary equipment is provided by this wonderful charity. Please support me to give back to these amazing people so that other women like me can have the support they need to recover from this horrible disease.
