The Whisky Ventures Ride Cymru

Fundraising for Wales Air Ambulance Charitable Trust
raised of £1,000 target
The Whisky Ventures Ride Cymru, 16 May 2024
We provide all-Wales emergency air cover to serve Wales & save lives 365 days a year

Founded in 2001 the Wales Air Ambulance has now flown nearly 50,000 missions to help people in need across Wales from its four airbases, Cardiff Heliport, Caernarfon Airport, Welshpool and the Dafen HQ. The service operates 24/7, 365 days a year, and responds to some of most critical emergencies and accidents across the country. Working alongside the NHS, the air ambulance can get medical expertise to patients in the shortest possible time, and allow patients to access hospital treatment as efficiently as possible, significantly increasing the likelihood of positive outcomes for those involve in an incident. The service also provides a number of road based rapid response vehicles, plus patient and bereavement support. The operation of the air ambulances and road vehicles is entirely charity funded and requires over £11m per year to operate. Without the support of the public this service would not be possible!

This is the second Whisky Ventures Ride challenge; it started in Scotland in 2022 with a challenge to cycle the length of the country via every whisky distillery to raise funds for the Scottish Air Ambulance. The challenge has now grown and may one day cover all the home nations. Wales is next.....

The challenge will begin on the 16th May in the welsh capital at the Cardiff Heliport, where the Welsh Air Ambulance has its Cardiff base, and finish one week and approximately 400 miles later in Holyhead. En route I will cycle via all nine of the welsh distilleries and the four Welsh Air Ambulance bases. As with the original challenge, there will be two parts to my fundraising; the first is this donation page for those wanting to help keep these amazing helicopters in the air (or just taking pity on my sore legs), and the second will be a charity auction for any bottles of whisky kindly donated by the distilleries across Wales. Details on this will follow in time.

About the charity

The Wales Air Ambulance Charity provides advanced life-saving emergency care for everyone in Wales, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. We are a ‘mobile emergency department’ that relies entirely on donations to keep our helicopters in the air and rapid response vehicles on the road.
