I recently retired from Cherry Tree Nursery and wish to raise money for the wonderful charity that I was part of for the last ten years.

Their purpose is to provide a safe space for adults with life-impacting mental illness in which they can recover, rehabilitate, regain their self-esteem, regain hope and become part of a community. Mental illness is devastating for the individual and their families and the primary care agencies are struggling to cope with the demand. Cherry Tree Nursery in Northbourne and Chestnut Nursery in Poole are a lifeline to many people and propagate, nurture and sell the most wonderful plants to help fund the charity. Do buy your plants from them, you won't be disappointed

Coinciding with my retirement, I was successful in being awarded a ballot place in April's London Marathon. This came as a surprise as ballot places are rare so I thought I had better get on with it and raise some money for SWOP in the process! This will be my fifth marathon, however my last one was over eight years ago and the body is far less willing these days! I started a six month training plan and this has filled most of my time post retirement.

I will meet all of my own costs including entry fees, travel and accommodation so that every penny I raise can go back to the charity that I value so much.
