Story
A UCL Film Society surrealist, 16mm short film. A lady, an Intern and some very concerned pigeons.
🙏 WHAT WE NEED NOW
For our first round of fundraising our team raised over 2k and we are now entering the second round of fundraising for the post-production stages!
We are fundraising for 3 main goals:
1. Submit Pigeon-livered to major film festivals (including BFI Future Film, London Film Festival, and British Independent Film Festival).
2. Pay for key post-production services including the score (exciting news coming from this front!).
3. Access post-production services including generative fill software, editing apps, and editing extensions.
More information about our post-production process can be found on our Instagram page (@pigeon_livered_). Every donation, no matter the size, brings us a step closer to seeing the project come to life.
🐦 ABOUT
Pigeon-livered is a satirical short film written, directed and produced by members of University College London’s Film & TV Society. Our third termly film is the first of the season to be shot on the renowned Arriflex 16BL film camera, notably used by Christopher Nolan during his time at UCL! The society's most ambitious project in recent years, this film has gathered a voluntary crew of 30+ students to work on both live action and stop motion animation.
🖊️ OUR SCRIPT
The Human Resources office has been relocated to the middle of a field, the Intern works up a tree, the Pigeons in the communications department are on strike and the Head of HR, well she couldn't tell you how long she has sat typing at her desk for. Pigeon-livered, written by Sophiya Sian and directed by Sam Q. Jackson, invites you to the Middle of Knowhere, a surreal world set in a Human Resources Department under strict order to be of no help. We follow the unfortunate and absurd fate of the Intern who questions a system too strange to be good. A gentle mocking of the professional absurdities many of us find ourselves trapped in at one time or another, this tragicomedy is a story of (false) hope and the inhumanity we humans tend to experience.
🎥 THE ARRI 16BL
We have the privilege of shooting on the 1965 Arri 16BL film camera, which was used by Christopher Nolan, alumnus of UCL FilmSoc in 1988. UCL Film Society is the only society in the UK to own a camera like this and, after Arri and members of FilmSoc repaired it in 2020, we intend to make the most of its unique qualities and not let such an amazing piece of equipment go to waste!
✅ THE IMPACT
This film is pushing the creative ability of each of its 30+ student crew, and of analogue film itself. Outrageously weird and wonderful, our production is an attempt to prove what can be possible when young, creative energy is unleashed. Your financial contribution will enable a team of young filmmakers and artists to create a tragicomedy that speaks to us all, and for many of us marks the beginning of our creative careers. A completely voluntary crew has been working for months on this project, out of more than simply passion, but belief in its relevance and its potential - but it needs your support to make it to the screen!
