Cyclathon - 315 miles in a day · 18 October 2024

A group of bereaved parents who have had a pregnancy or baby loss at UHNM have requested a quiet outdoor area for contemplation.

Story

A group of bereaved parents who have had a pregnancy or baby loss at UHNM have requested a quiet outdoor area for contemplation.

The proposal is a statue of a forget me not flower in an area at Royal Stoke that can be accessed by families and staff.

The statue will be funded by UHNM Charitable funds and funds raised by patients and their families and employees of Maternity and Neonatal services.

Staff at UHNM have joined forces with Fit Bodies Gym in Leek and are aiming to complete a simultaneous cyclathon using spin bikes with both sites cycling 315 miles each in one day.

The reason for 315 miles is to represent the UK figures for the loss of a baby every day - 302 miscarriages, 8 stillbirths and 5 neonatal deaths.

The spin bikes being used for the challenge at UHNM have generously been loaned by Pure Gym
