Eddie's fundraiser for ME Association

Eddie Smith is raising money for ME Association

The ME Association campaigns hard to get ME recognised as a severe neurological illness. Our helpline provides essential information and support to adults and children who have ME/CFS, and to their families and carers. We also fund biomedical research into the physical nature and causes of ME/CFS.

Story

Please help us to support people with ME and their families.

ME (Myalgic Encephalopathy), or Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, blights the lives of over 400,000 people in the UK today. The smallest exertion can floor them; their joints and muscles ache unbearably; restful sleep eludes them; and ‘brain fog’ clouds their thinking. It changes lives drastically – disrupting study; making work impossible; and straining family relations to breaking point. Many sufferers cannot leave their homes. There is no known cure.

Please help us to help them.

This is a new but personal charity to myself. My brother, Marcus, is currently suffering with ME/CFS and it's so painful to see how much it's taken over his current life. I can't imagine what it must feel like to be the one having to live with it day in day out. From climbing mountains and travelling the world, to hiking marathons and lifting in the gym, the every day movements of life have been altered and it's heartbreaking to see. However, he is a strong character and there's small progression, it's not always linear, but it's still progression. He first "crashed" back in mid September and is currently still bed bound to this day.

It's not only a massive amount of stress and strain on his body, but it also he as had an impact on his husband, Lloyd, who is now his full time carer. Lloyd is doing an amazing job in being the strong support pillars of helping Marcus, as well as still running the house, the two dogs and juggling life along the way.

I am competing in a 100km Ultra Marathon along the Jurassic coast on May 16th 2026.

It is the first of its kind for me, having only ever done a half marathon before about 8 years ago. It's a different style of training and one which I've only allowed myself 15 weeks to go from literally 0 - 100.

It will be hard, gruelling, mentally and physically challenging, however it is not merely as challenging as what my brother, Marcus, is going through.

I'm doing this for you big bro, I hope I can raise awareness and make you proud mate, love you x
