Story
In 2011, my home was struck by lightning during a thunderstorm. The strike came just two inches from hitting the gas line, and when the fire broke out, firefighters responded immediately. They not only saved my home from burning completely down but also protected the lives of those around me by containing the fire before it became catastrophic. Without their courage, I would not be living the life I have today.
Firefighters are also part of my family. I have loved ones who have served and who are currently serving, and I have seen firsthand the dedication and sacrifice this calling requires. Every time I pass Raleigh Fire Station 9, I’m reminded of the bravery and selflessness that define this profession.
Because of that, I feel called to give back in a way that reflects both my gratitude and my passion. On November 14, 2025, I will be running from downtown Raleigh to Charlotte, over 150 miles, to raise awareness and support for the North Carolina Firefighters Fund. This is not a race or an organized event. It is me testing my endurance and grit, with the goal of honoring those who protect us every single day.
What is the North Carolina Firefighters Fund?
The North Carolina Firefighters Fund was created in 2010 as a way to support North Carolina firefighters. Its goals include facilitating higher education within the fire service, raising awareness about firefighter health issues, and increasing public support for the profession. Through corporate and individual fundraising, the Fund directly supports North Carolina firefighters via scholarship programs, health and wellness education, and public awareness efforts.
Every donation, no matter the size, will go directly to the North Carolina Firefighters Fund to support firefighters and their families across the state. Thank you for helping me make this effort a true reflection of the gratitude I feel.
