Kelpies Experience for Harmeny · 11 May 2025 ·

The Kelpies Challenge Experience is the first ever guided aerial exploration of the world largest equine sculptures. Embark on an exhilarating climb to the horses mouth then descend via an exhilarating abseil or quick flight drop!

Story

This May I will be scaling Baron, the Kelpies facing upwards, for Harmeny. Which seemed a great idea at the time but, having driven past it recently, now seems quite high! As some of you know I have a thing about middle-ly heights. Jump out of a plane? No problem! Stand near the edge of a drop. Hmmm not so much.

Also, to up the challenge, I've also signed up for the Cairngorm Ultra, a 37mile run on 31st May. When I committed to this I hadn't run further than 17miles.

Since February I have been training hard with my amazing run partner Emma. I am now a complete running bore but I have been racking up the miles. Help me put all these long, hilly runs to good use and sponsor me as I go a bit mad in May!

Your donations will help children at Harmeny to find stability, friendship, and support to unlock their potential. Everyday at work I see the team give their all the advocate and care for some of the most remarkable children and young people I have ever had the pleasure to meet. So please make all the miles worthwhile. Thank you!

Harmeny Education Trust is a national, sector leading children’s charity. They offer therapeutic care and education, on a residential and day basis to children and young people aged 5-18, who have experienced early years trauma due to abuse, neglect and significant family disruption, enabling them to build positive relationships, make friends and rediscover the joy of learning at their school and cottages in Balerno, on the outskirts of Edinburgh.

Most have been in care from a young age and have been passed from pillar to post as carers and local authorities have struggled with their complex needs.

At Harmeny they are given consistent care and can discover how to be children again, to play, make friends and find fresh ways of learning that focus on their strengths. Your support will help young people who have had extremely challenging starts in life to get the spaces, opportunities and support they need to develop, discover their potential and thrive!
