Story

Hi everyone, thank you for taking the time to look at and read this page. In 2023 I took on the Yorkshire Marathon in memory of my Dad and Rotherham Hospice who provided expert round the clock care when, as a family, we needed it most. It's a cause that remains close to my heart and I've decided this year I wanted to do something challenging (borderline crazy) to continue to highlight the amazing work the hospice do and in memory of my amazing Dad.

So, I’ve decided to take on a series of 3 races throughout the summer collectively known as the Canal-slam - 3 non-stop 100+ mile races across the length of England throughout the summer!

The Grand Union Canal Race - 145 miles (24th May)

The Kennet & Avon Canal Race - 145 miles (25th July)

The Liverpool & Leeds Canal Race - 130 miles (23rd August)

To date 59 people have managed to complete the challenge of running all 3 in one year and I hope to add myself to the list all whilst raising as much money as possible for the hospice. Training is already underway and I'd appreciate any donation made in support of the challenge itself, Rotherham Hospice and the memory of my Dad.

Thanks for making it this far! I just also wanted to share my original post below which highlights why this cause means so much to me and why any donation will have a real impact!

I’d like to share a story, about a man who inspired, mentored, and guided me all my life. A man who despite no longer being with us continues to do so, and more, in the many memories I cherish of him. Kevin Logan, my dad.

This story about Dad displays the unwavering courage he possessed when faced with an unwinnable fight, against a disease that affects so many people across the world. When Dad received his cancer diagnosis in March 2021, he wasn’t enraged by the prospect of confronting his own mortality but instead carried this burden and supported those around him. Comforting me, my sister and my mother through an incredible scenario that none of us expected. The courage he possessed inspires me and countless others, whose lives he impacted in so many ways - big and small.

Dad passed away peacefully on Tuesday 28th September 2021 with his family by his side. Rotherham Hospice made this possible. Their expert care aided his final few months to make them some of the most valuable and rewarding throughout my entire life.

Rotherham Hospice has provided care and support for people living with a life limiting illness for over 25 years and is run as an independent charity. It’s also the only adult hospice for the people of Rotherham and surrounding villages. In order to continue to provide the amazing care that Dad and so many other have received, the hospice requires over £6 million annually and rely heavily upon local people and organisations for their support.

A huge thank you to anyone that takes the time to donate and finally, a massive thank you to Rotherham Hospice for the care provided to Dad and so many others all year round.
