Sustainable Education in Accra, Ghana - Warwick in Africa 2024

Who are we?
We are four University of Warwick students, Kaushik, Celine, Umar, and Ashwin, who will travel to Accra, Ghana, for six weeks over the summer to support teaching Maths and English in different schools at various levels. Besides teaching, we will contribute to and immerse ourselves in school life in many ways, such as helping with extracurricular activities. A key role as a student volunteer is to raise money and awareness for "Warwick in Africa", a holistic educational programme across Africa (WiA). Although the student volunteer programme is integral to WiA, it only represents one-third of WiA's support for schools in Ghana, South Africa, and Tanzania.
More on the Warwick in Africa program
WiA is a multifaceted programme consisting of three core elements: a Student Volunteer program, a Lead Teacher Support program, and a Teacher Support program. Through these programmes, WiA supports the education of Maths and English in 28 of the poorest schools in Ghana, South Africa, and Tanzania. So far, the programme has benefited 130,000 learners since 2006 and trained 5,000 African teachers. WiA ensures that, in this approach, they are helping to find sustainable, creative, and innovative solutions to provide young people in Africa with an enhanced learning experience from which they can build a positive and fulfilling future.
