IAN SMART is raising money for UNCLE
“Nepal Flash Floods Appeal”

on 30 August 2026

UNCLE supports the Hope for Children and Trinity orphanages in Nepal. This is our 13th year in operation as a charity, needing to raise over £20,000 a year to support the children and their carers. In addition we have raised over £70,000 to rebuild one of the orphanages.

UPDATE 4th September 2026

Dear Revd Ian,

Greetings to you from Nepal.

. . . we would like to ask for your prayers, compassion and support for families affected by the devastating floods and landslides in Rasuwa, Nepal.

This disaster is very personal to us. I myself was caught in the disaster on way to visit Gorkha Church. After two days, I was able to return home safely with other way road. Through this experience, I personally witnessed the fear, uncertainty and suffering caused by the disaster.

My personal connection is very close to our Glorious Church family who is now in Rasuwa.

The youngest daughter of Bishnu Maya, from our Glorious Church family in Hetauda, is married to the son of a pastor in Rasuwa. She has a son and family. Their family, the local church, and many families in the surrounding community are facing severe hardship because of the disaster. Many died and unknown. Children suffering with fear and house gone.

We are also deeply concerned about relatives of some of our church members in Kathmandu. They were professional mountain guides who worked with tourists in the mountains. Sadly, they were swept away by the disaster, and their bodies have still not been found.

Their families continue to wait, hope and grieve.

Many families in the affected areas have experienced tremendous loss. Some have lost loved ones, homes, belongings, livestock, and their sources of income.

Many are now struggling to obtain basic necessities such as:

- Food and essential groceries

- Clothes and warm clothing

- Blankets and basic household supplies

- Immediate assistance for families who have lost their homes or belongings

At this difficult time, even simple practical support can make a meaningful difference.

As a church family, we would like to respond with compassion and action.

Our immediate goal is to provide food, clothing, blankets, and essential supplies to families who are suffering the greatest hardship.

We will work together with the local church where our Church member got married in affected community to identify families with genuine needs and distribute the assistance as directly and responsibly as possible.

Our desire is not only to meet physical needs but also to bring comfort, hope, prayer and the love of Jesus Christ to people who are going through a very painful season.

Help us with-

PRAYER- Please pray for the families who have lost loved ones and for those still waiting for news.

GIVING- Any financial contribution, large or small, can help us provide food, clothing and essential supplies.

SHARING- Please share this appeal with churches, friends and others who may be willing to help.

Every contribution is welcome. No gift is too small when it is given with love.

“Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.”

Galatians 6:2

“Whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.”

Matthew 25:40

We believe this is an opportunity for us to demonstrate the love of Christ, not only through words, but through practical compassion and action.

we are one family in Christ.

At this difficult time, we believe the church can stand together, pray together, give together, and serve together.

Our prayer is that God will use our small efforts to bring food to the hungry, clothing to those in need, comfort to grieving families, and hope to those who feel forgotten.

With prayers

Dev and Maya

UNCLE supports 2 orphanages in Kathmandu attached to the Glorious Ministry and the Himalayan Hope Church, also the Glorious Ministry church in Hetauda, and other charitable work undertaken by these two churches. We also respond to need when asked to do so.

I am sure you all saw the news coverage of the Flash Floods on the Nepal / Tibet boundary. (see https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cd68vpjv21do) We have received the following from Ps. David Prasain of the Himalayan Hope Church

". . . severe flooding from the Bhote Koshi River has caused major destruction in the Trishuli Bazaar area of Nuwakot. Many families have lost their homes, and more than a thousand people have been affected. Some pastors and church members are also facing difficulties.

We are hoping to provide emergency groceries and blankets to families who are urgently in need.

The estimated relief need is approximately £1,100. If you are able to help, any amount would be a great blessing. Even a small gift can bring food, warmth, and hope to someone in need.

Above all, please pray for the affected families, those who are missing or injured, the rescue teams, and for God’s protection and comfort over Nepal."

UNCLE has committed to meet this, and we are asking for your support. We are guessing that much more than this is needed.

UNCLE guarantees that 100% of the money that you give goes to the causes we support, and we are able to get money to Nepal without fees and a good exchange rate. The very small fees we have are covered by our Gift Aid, and all the trustees give their time and effort voluntarily.

Please support us as we seek to respond to this need.

Thank you for supporting the people of Nepal.
