Walking the Way of St James in Spain 2023

UNCLE supports the Hope for Children and Trinity orphanages in Nepal. This is our 13th year in operation as a charity, needing to raise over £20,000 a year to support the children and their carers. In addition we have raised over £70,000 to rebuild one of the orphanages.

Story

Paul Harris , Ron Sutcliffe and Alan Bishop are three friends, now retired, who have grown up together and share an interest in Scouting and the outdoor life.

Paul is a trustee of the Charity UNCLE (which stands for Uplifting Nepal’s Children with Love and Education).

This will be our eighth long distance walk to raise money for UNCLE and this year we are joined by Paul's wife Jennie. The challenge we have set ourselves is to walk the full 483 miles of the Camino de Santiago de Compostela in Spain (in the case of Paul and Alan for a second time!) To complete the pilgrim route, known as the Way of St James, we have allowed ourselves up to six weeks from 27th March to 5th May 2023.

Having set ourselves a big challenge we hope to raise an equally big sum for UNCLE and are aiming for a fund-raising target of £2,000.

In 15 years as a charity, UNCLE has built a church in Southern Nepal, supported two orphanages in Kathmandu, meeting all their living, medical and educational expenses, we have helped with the aftermath of an earthquake and rebuilt an orphanage damaged by it. Financially we have raised and spent in excess of £350,000 ….yet the needs remain and we will continue, with your help, to do our best to meet them.

Every penny you donate to UNCLE will go to give the Nepali children practical support and a place to live. Please help. Thank you.
