COMPLETE!!!!
THANK YOU to everyone who supported this by either giving through Just Giving, or direct donations. We have achieved 100% of our target and the toilets are underway.
THANK YOU for all your help.
Updates will be on http://uncleuk.org which links to our Facebook page.
UPDATE:
As you will see following some very kind and generous donations, the target for the first phase has now been passed, and so target for what was called phase 2 in the original description has now been included.
THANK YOU to everyone who has supported this work, we will now begin the first phase whilst raising the funds for phase 2.
The original description still stands as:
In 2011, I was visiting the community centre that UNCLE funded and UNCLE trustees helped build . While visiting one of the two refugee camps that the Glorious Ministry serve in that place I discovered that as a result of recent flooding there were no working toilets for this community of hundreds of people. Whilst the area outside the camp had become an open sewer, a worse problem also existed, since girls needing the toilet in the night were sometimes attacked when they were most vulnerable. UNCLE supporters provided 27 toilets which have withstood the Nepali Earthquake and everything that existing on the Terai can throw at them.
Now, in 2023 I have been back to see these toilets and how they need some repair. The good news is that with one exception they are all still fit for purpose and the chemical system they rely upon in working well. However, the doors and rooves are in need of some repair. Moreover, as the camp is now larger we also need to build 11 new toilets.
As with the original toilets the work that needs to be done will use locally sourced materials and be undertaken by local labour, thereby supporting this community twice over.
We are going to do this work in two phases. The first is to repair the 27 toilets and the 2 extra toilets that have been added since. This will cost £2,876. The second phase, the addition of 11 new toilets, will cost £3910.
We are aware that whilst we are undertaking this fund raising the ongoing support of the 34 children that we fund, along with the support of other work in Hetauda still needs to be paid for, and we are so grateful to all our supporters who are so generous. So, if you are not able to approach this extra work please do not feel any guilt, thank you for all you do - the folk in Nepal rely on this and without you we could not do it. THANK YOU. But if you are able to help, then please go to https://justgiving.com/uncle-toilets and give what you can.
God Bless,
The Rev’d Ian Smart
