Story
For our harvest appeal this year we invite our church family and friends to help our local Christian charity Project Possible support an orphan care centre called Bethanie in Chad. Project Possible are partnering with the Betsaleel Association in N’Djamena to strengthen the sustainability of the Bethanie centre.
The centre cares for babies whose mothers died while giving birth to them; without their mother’s milk, babies become seriously ill and malnourished and have a low chance of survival. Orphaned babies come to the centre with a carer, such as a grandma or aunt. The time that the carer spends in the Bethanie’s centre allows the carer to learn very practically how to care for a vulnerable baby, understanding the importance of hygiene, hydration and nutrition; it also allows her to bond with the baby she is caring for and with the other women.
Our church member Amos Oumounabidji who works for Project Possible has recently been to the centre and we’ll be learning more from him in our harvest celebration service on 22nd September.
