Story
James Thomson, the former treasurer and friend of all in the University of Bristol Pool and Snooker Club, took his own life in October of 2017. Seven years on, all at the club remember him and for the fourth time we are holding a 24 hour charity “snookerthon” in aid of Papyrus.
Papyrus is the national charity for the prevention of young suicide and believes that many young suicides are preventable. It is still the case that suicide is the biggest killer of under 35s in the UK and with the pandemic affecting everyone in different ways, now more than ever it is important remind everyone that they are not alone in whatever struggles they may encounter.
Papyrus provide confidential help and advice to young people and anyone worried about a young person, and help others to prevent suicide by working with and training professionals.
They operate HOPELINEUK, a confidential call, text, and email helpline for young people with thoughts of suicide or those concerned about a young person who may have thoughts of suicide. Even £5 raised can help pay for a potentially life-saving contact to HOPELINEUK from a young person wanting to stay safe from their thoughts of suicide.
