Story
Last year we took part in 24 hours of gaming and raising money for Macmillan Cancer Care and this year we want to do it again and support another charity.
As the UTC is a gaming specialist college, we thought we'd set ourselves the challenge of taking part in Children In Need’s ”Game To Give” event. BBC Children in Need is uniting the gaming world on 10th November, when gamers will join forces to help raise money for the charity and highlight the positive impact of video games. The day will culminate in a specially commissioned, live BBC TV show, airing on the BBC iPlayer and BBC Three.
Children In Need are helping to fund charities all over the UK who are using video games to support children. We want to raise awareness about the benefits that responsible gaming can have. We also want to celebrate the social aspect of gaming and its power to unite people through play. Children In Need have helped fund and support over 40 projects within the Manchester area and especially during this time of the cost of living crisis, these projects help support children and families.
It's going to be a very difficult challenge, but we hope to have great fun taking part in it.
From Thursday 9th November starting at 3pm, over 60 6th form students and 5 members of staff will be taking in a full 24 hours of gaming until 3pm the next day. We’ll be playing a multitude of devices and games, including PC, consoles, VR, board games, Warhammer and even table tennis. It’s going to be a lot of fun but also exhausting.
