Story
In May of this year, the UX team and friends will complete a walk through London to raise funds for an organisation close to our hearts; The Brain Tumour Charity.
Brain tumours are incredibly complex, with over 130 different known types, including both cancerous and non-cancerous forms. They affect both children and adults. According to The Brain Tumour Charity, approximately 33 people are diagnosed with a brain tumour every day, and an estimated 88,000 children and adults are currently living with a brain tumour in the UK.
In comparison to other types of cancer, brain tumours are the leading cause of cancer-related deaths for those under 40 years old. Only about 12% of adults diagnosed with a brain tumour survive five years after their diagnosis. Overall, brain tumours have the most significant impact on life expectancy of any cancer, resulting in an average reduction of 27 years.
These statistics are difficult to digest and highlight the urgent need for research to improve the management and treatment of brain tumours. Unfortunately, The Brain Tumour Charity reports that only 3% of the £700 million spent annually on cancer research is allocated to brain tumours, which is insufficient.
The Brain Tumour Charity, the world's leading brain tumour charity, provides vital support for individuals affected by brain tumours. Their initiatives include fundraising to assist patients and support research, advocating for a National Brain Tumour Strategy with policymakers, and offering help to patients in need because we understand that when you, or someone you love, is diagnosed with a brain tumour a cure really can't wait.
