Story
I have set myself the challenge of walking the full length of Hadrian's Wall from Bowness on the west coast of England to Wallsend on the east coast - a distance of 84 miles - to raise funds for vital equipment for remote rural maternity clinics in the Mityana region of Uganda.
I travelled to Mityana in February with the charity and was blown away by the enormous impact of the funding provided by the Mityana Charity in this very poor rural area. We visited two maternity clinics where I saw for myself the essential care the clinics provide for women and their babies living in isolated communities. Many of the women walk for an hour or more to get to the clinic for essential maternity care. The clinic staff are highly motivated and do everything they can to provide high quality care for women and their babies but they are constrained and frustrated by a lack of basic equipment such as autoclaves, blood test machine and ultrasound scanner.
I will be doing the walk in September and am asking for sponsorship to raise funds to buy equipment for the clinics so that the women and their babies can receive safe and effective care. All donations, no matter how small will be greatly appreciated - every pound will make a difference and all the money raised will go to the purchase of vital equipment.
