Story

Taurus Mountain Race 4 MAP

I'm aiming to raise 10p for every metre I will (try to) climb at the Taurus Mountain Race.

I'm supporting MAP by taking on the Taurus Mountain Race, a self-supported ultra challenge on the Taurus Mountains in Turkey (14-24 October)

The race covers 1460km and 36346m+ of climbing (hence the £3625 goal), participants are to be self sufficient and complete the race with no external support/help.

The race route won't be disclosed until a few days before the start, and participants are to be prepared for sections of 1-200km with no resupply.

While that might sound like a huge undertaking, it's nothing compared to what the Palestinians are going through, and the challenges faced by medical staff on the ground.

Clean Water for Gaza

In a world where water flows freely from the tap, it’s easy to forget that access to water is a basic human right. But in Gaza, water isn’t just precious—it’s a lifeline that has been cut off.

Israeli attacks, combined with restrictions on electricity and fuel, have crippled Gaza’s water infrastructure, destroying 80% of water provision. Entire communities have been left with no safe supply, forcing families to rely on contaminated sources. (Source: MSF)

This is not a tragic accident—it is the deliberate use of “water as another weapon of war.” Contaminated aquifers, shattered pipelines, and disabled desalination plants have created a public health catastrophe.

WHY MAP

Many charities and NGOs face mounting difficulties operating in Gaza under Israel’s revised registration rules for international humanitarian organisations. The requirements include providing personal information about Palestinian employees, which endangers staff and conflict with humanitarian independence and data-protection obligations. Israeli authorities blocked any non-complying charity and international personnel from entering Gaza from 1 January 2026. MSF and 18 other organisations have challenged the restrictions in Israel’s High Court, warning that shortages of medicines, equipment and experienced personnel could make existing medical programmes increasingly difficult to sustain.

Despite these challenges, MAP continues to work through its local teams and Palestinian partner organisations to provide emergency healthcare and humanitarian support across Gaza. During the first three months of 2026, MAP reported delivering more than 540,000 healthcare and humanitarian services, despite severe shortages of medicines, antibiotics, anaesthetics, diagnostic equipment and other basic supplies. Its current work includes supporting hospitals and health workers, treating injuries and routine medical conditions, and responding to the wider effects of displacement, malnutrition and the collapse of Gaza’s health infrastructure. MAP is also campaigning for unrestricted humanitarian access, the entry of fuel and medical supplies, safe passage and evacuation for patients, and international action to protect healthcare workers and rebuild Gaza’s medical system.
