Dan and Hannah - Hyrox Challenge 2024

HYROX: London 2024 · 4 May 2024 ·
We have decided to take on a challenge in 2024 by competing in not 1, but 2 Hyrox events.
We will be competing in:
- Hyrox Rotterdam - 7th April 2024 - mixed doubles (together)
- Hyrox London - 4/5th May 2024 - open men’s and open women’s (individually)
Hannah’s Story:
Back in 2016 I embarked on a journey of mental and physical endurance setting myself a distance target to be run within 12 months. This meant an almost daily 3-5km run length to achieve the goal. I was raising money then for the charity “Mind” in memory of John. It was an achievement I have always been exceptionally proud of and was an important part of my healing journey.
I am a goal orientated person and strive for the drive to achieve results but am also a busy working mum, so time is not on my side so since then I’ve done some sporadic running at best, but nothing more.
So when I announced before Christmas that I wanted to do a Hyrox, Dan pretty much laughed in my face. Well he’s not laughing now cos we’re in this together now!!
This race involves a lot of running and that has always been my comfort exercise, however sprint intervals at 3/6/9% incline, not so much. In some exercises I will be carrying more than my own body weight and even pushing triple at one point.
I hope Dan wasn’t right to laugh!
For anyone who doesn’t know what Hyrox is, here’s the low-down. It's considered the Marathon of the fitness world.... and on mixed doubles BOTH competitors have to do the men’s weights/reps:
1km Run, 1km SkiErg
1km Run, 50m Sled Push (102kg women, 152kg men)
1km Run, 50m Sled Pull (78kg women, 103kg men)
1km Run, 80m Burpee Broad Jump
1km Run, 1km Row (on Concept2 Rower)
1km Run, 200m Kettle Bells Farmers Carry (2x16kg women, 2x24kg men) For doubles Hannah will be carrying her own body weight!
1km Run, 100m Sandbag Lunges (10kg women, 20kg men)
1km Run, 75 reps women, 100 reps men Wall Balls (4kg women, 6kg men)

Whilst we are doing this as a personal challenge, we also wanted to take the opportunity to raise money for a charity close to our hearts and many others.
