Varsity March 2025: Page for The Gatehouse

CURaC Cambridge University Rambling Club is raising money for The Gatehouse

Team: Varsity March 2025

Varsity March 2025 · 28 June 2025

A cafe for homeless and vulnerably-housed people aged 25+ in the centre of Oxford. Open six days a week in the early evening. We provide a wide range of support services and advice as well as simple, nutritious food and drink. In other words, a community centre for those who have no community.

Story

The annual Varsity March is a 132 km walk between Oxford and Cambridge, completed in less than 48 hours without sleep! Walkers from both Cambridge University Rambling Club and Oxford University Walking Club take part. Many walkers do not plan to walk the full distance but instead turn out to support their friends for large chunks of it.

This year the full 132 km was completed in 39 hours 15 min by Adam Bascal, Nineli Lashkarashvili, Stephanie Smith and Dylan the Sheep. In addition, Balint Kovacs and Benjamin Marschall did Oxford to Aylesbury (37 km) and Kiarn Turner did Oxford to Cuddington (27 km).

This year we are again raising money for the Gatehouse charity in Oxford and for Jimmy’s Cambridge. These charities carry out vital work among the homeless and poorly housed of Oxford and Cambridge. We encourage you to split your donation between the Gatehouse (this page) and our page for Jimmy's Cambridge. Thank you very much for sponsoring us!
