Story
Hi peeps. I have an incurable brain cancer called Glioblastoma or GBM4. My squidlet appeared in Feb 2022 after I started experiencing some odd symptoms over a short period of time, it was family, friends & colleagues that raised the alarm and without them o wouldn’t be here now. Fighting to keep living and give others HOPE for their future. HOPE FOR A CURE.
As stated GBM is malignant and aggressive and above all of malignant brain cancer the statistics show it kills 48% of all those diagnosed.
I’m now 4 yrs since and have lost, listened and heard of so many passing as a result. So I am grateful and humbled as not every one gets that!
This leads me to the aim of my page. I’m fundraising for Brain Tumour Research by taking part in Robin Hood Half Marathon 27th September. The money raised allows research’s to do exactly that research and look at brain tumours, their cells their make up why does it change how does it change and when they find that change they can then look into drugs and how they work. Only now there is a centre of excellence specifically for GBM. Meaning more HOPE can be shared and that those diagnosed in the future could have a better quality of life, live longer.
So here are some statistics:-
•40 people die every year from cancer particularly children and adults under the age of 40
•There are 130 different types of cancer
•12%of adults whom are diagnosed would be lucky to make it past 5 years :( those who make it have had their life expectancy reduced by 27 years
•Over 12,000 are diagnosed with brain cancer ever year that’s 33 every day with over 88,000 children and adults are expected to life with it without knowing
And for me the most crucial fact is that 700m is spent on cancer research with only 3% spent in brain tumours. How sickening and for people like me treatments havent changed in over 20 years.
Here are symptoms to look out for:-
1• headaches, frequent or severe that are worse in morning or keep you awake at night.
2• nausea and vomiting that is persistent and doesn’t get better
3• vision problems, blurred or double vision, loss of sight or flashing lights/colours
4• seizures. Something that isn’t normal for you
5• weakness or numbness, can affect one limb or many or whole side
6• speech difficulties, difficulty talking, slurring, stifling to find the words to say
7• cognitive changes:- confusion, memory loss, difficulty concentrating
Symptoms vary on the part of the brain that is affected so frontal lobe tumours affect controlling movement, emotions, behavioural changes etc whilst the occipital lobe tumours can affect an individual’s vision others include temporal lobe, parietal lobe, brainstem, cerebellum and the pituitary gland. But all are generally caused as a result of increased pressure through growth of a tumour. And there are over 130
So if you wish to donate please take time to think about brain tumour charities out there that need your help to increase the funding to improve treatments, medicines, bloody hell to improve anything.
I’m living with a cancer that will eventually take my life but it shouldn’t happen! So please is you can DONATE just remember your brain is your most important organ and one small problem could cause a multitude of problems.
So please dig deep!!
Please share!!!
