Story
Dementia is the UKs biggest killer. Someone develops it every three minutes and currently there is no cure. We know it is scary but we must confront the biggest health & social care challenge of our time. We owe it to the 1 million people across the UK currently living with dementia to campaign for change, whilst providing vital day-to-day support. By taking part and raising money, or donating to someone who is, you are helping to do this.
Both of my grandmothers were battling Dementia and Alzheimer's, and I lost them both while there were still here. I have fond memories of both of them, Francesca and Norina, they taught me the love for cooking, growing things from scratch and nature. They transferred to me a big moral compass, and to love all things beautiful.
Francesca was the matriarch of my mom side of the family, proud old school woman who worked and hustled all her life to make sure her family was always provided for, even in the darkest and most difficult times.
Norina, was a loving woman, never seen a love as pure as the one she had for my Grampa, Serafino. I still have their picture from when they were young in my wallet, always with me.
Without them, I would not be the person I am today.
To support the research and families where dementia hits, I'll be participating in the London memory walk on the 4th of October. You can join my team on their page "accent 25 for 25"
Thanks to my employer, Accent Catering, we are able to really make a difference, as for every pound donated, they will match pound for pound until a the goal is reached, theyare supporting 25 charities for their 25th birthday as a company.
Help us make the difference for who needs it most.
Once you donate, JustGiving sends your money directly to Alzheimer's Society you don't need to do anything and it's the most efficient way to fundraise. So, who will you walk for? #MemoryWalk
