Hello, my name is Veronika Walker, and I am a proud mum of three wonderful children. Today, I am reaching out to you to support a cause that is incredibly close to my heart: Simpsons Special Care Babies, Neonatal Unit, ICU, Edinburgh.

In 2017, my husband and I were blessed with the birth of our twins, Emily and Andrew—our first twins in the family's history. However, their arrival came nearly six weeks prematurely, and I was denied the immediate joy of holding them for the first time. Emily and Andrew were rushed into the neonatal intensive care unit immediately after birth.

During the weeks that followed, our lives revolved around the neonatal unit. Each day, it was heartbreaking to see my precious twins behind the glass of their incubators. The sight of other newborns, some even smaller and more fragile than my own, added to the emotional weight of the experience. But amidst these challenging moments, there was a light: the incredible staff of the neonatal unit.

The nurses and doctors at the Neonatal Unit are nothing short of magical. Their compassion and dedication were evident in every interaction. I witnessed nurses cuddling and singing lullabies to the little ones during the night—moments that brought tears to my eyes and comfort to my heart.

Emily and Andrew showed remarkable progress each day, and we eagerly awaited the moment we could move to a family room and, eventually, bring them home. When that day finally arrived, we were overwhelmed with gratitude, especially when we received the beautiful, tiny woollen hats that kept our babies warm during their stay at the unit.

Since the day of my twins' birth, I have been a staunch supporter of the Neonatal Unit. I am committed to continuing my support for this extraordinary cause, and I invite you to join me on this journey. Together, we can support the little lives that this unit works tirelessly to save.
