Stephen Paul Wild, my Dad, the most wonderful man in the world, died on 4th October 2023.
Dad was unfortunately diagnosed with pancreatic cancer at the end of July 2023. He died peacefully at home just two months later.
Dad was not the first of his family to suffer from Pancreatic Cancer, his older brother passed away from it about 20 years ago. Because of this, we always thought we would be able to spot the signs quickly... but like many others Dad's cancer crept up on him, first diagnosed as nothing more than side effects of medication. It was only thanks to a lovely locum Doctor (on the 5 or 6th time of asking) that we ended up going for investigations.
By then Dad's cancer had spread and there was little more to do than make him comfortable and make sure he was surrounded by love. We spent many a day rewatching Lord of the Rings (the extended versions obviously) with Dad causing mischief from his hospital bed at home.
I found PCUK as soon as Dad's investigations started (I Google everything, I know it's bad) and we received some leaflets from the charity as well. I relied very heavily on the support pages in the days after his diagnosis and then again after his death.
That is one of the reasons why I want to help, if PCUK can stop one person from missing the new series of their favourite show (death in Paradise was Dad's favourite), then I will have changed the world.
Last year, myself and three friends took on six months of fundraising for PCUK and this year weāre back⦠sort of
Myself and Nat (half of our fundraising group) have signed up to complete the Brighton 10K with PCUK.
We are complete beginners (although Nat was quite good at cross country in school š) and I have recently discovered that I over-pronate when I run. With the rest of our group supporting (and cackling) in the background we have been ātrainingā for this challenge that has snuck up on us rather quickly.
PCUK is continuing the quest to defeat Pancreatic Cancer, and we still want to help⦠even if it means trying to run through several stitches and blister's. š
Please consider donating and remember to learn the common symptoms of Pancreatic Cancer⦠you never know when you might need that knowledge.
