As many of you are aware in June 2025 our 3 year old son Freddie’s healthy little body was savagely attacked by multiple viruses which sadly got in and attacked his heart. This resulted in viral myocarditis where his poorly heart was unable to function and get oxygen to his internal organs including his brain. Freddie was on life support for over 3 weeks, fighting for his life, and during this period he went onto an ECMO machine which was his last chance. This took over the job of Freddie’s heart and lungs, in the hope that his heart could have sufficient ‘rest’ to try and heal whilst fighting off the viruses, and Freddie could survive.

Freddie‘s life was saved by the incredible and selfless medical teams at Bristol Children’s Hospital, who put him onto a new ECMO machine they had recently taken delivery of. If it wasn’t for the medical teams and ECMO machines in the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) at Bristol Children’s Hospital then no doubt we would have lost Freddie and our daughter Millie would have been left without her little brother. The doctors, nurses, surgeons and all of the PICU team work tirelessly 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to help and save poorly children, not just Freddie. They are just amazing and we literally owe them everything.

As an appreciation of their tireless work I have set up this fund, named Freddie’s Fund, so that people can donate towards PICU and ECMO in Bristol Children’s Hospital, to help in some way towards them continuing saving many more young lives. The hospital have agreed that this sunshine fund, named ‘Freddie’s Fund’ will be earmarked specifically to PICU in Bristol Children’s Hospital and ECMO they provide there. Whilst I appreciate that sadly every single life cannot be saved by ECMO, having access to such pioneering equipment and incredible medical teams gives children a chance of survival, when they really need it, when other forms of life support are failing for paediatric cardiac patients.
