I am raising funds for Tools for Self Reliance to support young people and marginalised communities in learning trades and building livelihoods. In 2025, 40 trainees will learn their choice of Welding, Tailoring or Solar and Electrical Installation and Repair with Tools for Self Reliance and YouthCode.

Despite being a stable, peaceful and democratic country for decades, Malawi still faces significant development challenges and is ranked among the twenty poorest countries in the world, with two thirds of the population below the poverty line. A third of young people are not in employment, education or training. The economy remains driven by high-risk agriculture production and Malawi’s business growth is hindered by the lack of a skilled workforce.

YouthCode has been working closely with young people in the North-East lakeside town of Nkhotakota since 1997 and is committed to empowering youth to be self-reliant through the provision of education and skills.
