On Sunday 18 October, I’m doing the Changing Faces Confidence Walk through London to raise money for a charity that means a lot to me.

I’m a former trustee of Changing Faces, so I’ve been lucky enough to see first-hand the impact of its work.

People with scars, marks and conditions that affect their appearance can still experience staring, comments, bullying and discrimination simply because of how they look. Changing Faces exists to change that – providing practical and emotional support while campaigning for a society where everyone is treated equally, regardless of appearance.

I continue to be hugely inspired by the charity and its campaigners – people who put themselves out there and share their most vulnerable experiences to raise awareness and help others.

The money raised really does make a difference:

£100 could help Changing Faces be there at the end of the phone when a young person is feeling alone because of their visible difference.

£500 could help provide therapeutic group support to build confidence and self-esteem for 10 people.

£1,000 could help run the Changing Faces support line for an entire week, providing one-to-one support when someone needs it.

Donations also help fund the charity’s wider work – including workshops for children and families, as well as campaigning to challenge appearance-based discrimination and improve representation.

That’s why I’m walking along with my parents, and why I’d be incredibly grateful for any donation, however large or small. Every pound helps Changing Faces work towards a world where nobody’s life is limited by how they look.
