** May is Lyme Awareness Month! **
...and to mark this occasion and raise awareness, Marina, Tom and Hector will be running the Edinburgh Marathon, with Tora and Kitty taking on the Half on 25th May!
Lyme Disease is a complex disease spread by bites from infected ticks, and if not treated, can cause chronic fatigue, muscle aches and difficulty thinking. If caught early, symptoms are often minor and treatment is relatively straightforward. However, in many cases, through lack of awareness, the early warning signs are missed.
Our good friend, Alexander McGrigor, contracted Lyme Disease towards the end of 2023, and it was only after an initial misdiagnosis in the UK that Alex contacted a specialist in Germany, who confirmed that he was indeed infected with Lyme Disease.
Luckily, Alex is well on the road to recovery and is incredibly grateful to the Lyme Resource Centre (LRC) for their support. The LRC's mission is to "...minimise risk of Lyme Disease, whilst enjoying the outdoors, by educating the public and healthcare professionals about ticks and recognising symptoms of the disease."
With reported cases of the disease on the rise in the UK, we are keen to raise as much money as possible for the LRC, who play a vital role in spreading awareness about prevention, proper tick removal, and the importance of early treatment.
Any donation, no matter how small, would be greatly appreciated!
Time to dig out those trainers! Thank you very much in advance from Tora, Hector, Marina, Tom and Kitty 🙏🏻
