In 2024, our son Arthur was born 7 weeks early at the Jessop Wing in Sheffield. He was immediately taken to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, where he was ventilated and remained for two weeks. Without the incredible doctors and nurses, Arthur wouldn’t be here today.

During his time in NICU, Arthur was diagnosed with chronic lung disease and required various levels of breathing support, including CPAP, BiPAP and High Flow. After seven challenging weeks in hospital, he was finally allowed home with low-flow oxygen.

The entire experience was traumatic and one of the hardest times of our lives. Sheffield Hospitals Charity provided invaluable support, including on-site accommodation, which meant I could stay close to Arthur. Without it, I would have faced a two-hour daily commute. At a time when it already felt like we were missing out on the newborn experience, being able to stay by his side meant everything to me.

The unit also offered Family Support Nurses and charity-funded clinical psychologists to help families cope with the emotional toll of neonatal intensive care. We are endlessly grateful for everything the charity did for us.

Running the London Marathon in 2026 for Jessop Wing NICU and Sheffield Hospitals Charity is my way of giving something back. Any donations, no matter how small, will help support other families facing the same journey.
