Story
So, I’ve made the mad decision to run the Manchester half marathon this year. The thought of running that far makes me feel slightly queasy. However, what makes it all worth it is knowing I’ll be raising awareness of, and money for Parkinson’s UK. I am a Speech and Language Therapist who works with adults who have acquired neurological conditions. Over the last 8 years in my job I’ve seen all the inspiring work they do. They are a charity who deserve more recognition, and more money to carry on doing what they do.
On a more personal note, they have also supported my family over the last 4 years. From running support groups, giving financial advice and giving practical advice for how to live with Parkinson’s. I’m far from a natural runner, so for me this will be a big challenge! I have a love, hate relationship with running, but I’ve never felt bad after a run yet. Apart from the one where I fell over. It’s a great test for mental strength and resilience, as I usually want to give up within the first mile. But, I remind myself why I’m doing this, and keep going. This is my first running event, and potentially the last. We’ll see how I feel at the end of it. I know times are hard at the moment, but please dig deep and donate what you can. Vicky xxx
