Story
Hi and thanks for taking a look at my fundraiser page!
I’ve decided to have a slightly different countdown to Christmas this year. For 9 weeks (starting on 20th October) I’m going to be trying (and hopefully finally succeeding!) at completing the couch to 5k programme in support of the UK Antarctic Heritage Trust.
For anyone who knows me at all, I have never been a dedicated runner and have tried and failed at this plan a few times over the years. But my plan this time is to hold myself accountable through your generous donations, whilst at the same time raising money for an excellent charity!
The UK Antarctic Heritage Trust’s (UKAHT’s) mission is to promote greater public engagement with Antarctica, through heritage conservation, storytelling and effective advocacy.
I feel lucky to have been working as a Trustee with UKAHT for the past 3 years (after having visited the penguins myself in 2020), and would love to raise as much as I can to support the team’s work down in Antarctica this season – as we look to check in on our Gentoo penguin colony living near Port Lockroy (the “Penguin Post Office”) and carry out much needed repair and conservation work on the various heritage sites we take care of - which are deteriorating more rapidly as climate change affects the weather patterns in Antarctica.
Every £1 will help UKAHT undertake the unique work it does – thank you so much for any and all support. I’m grateful also for the LCP Foundation who have promised to match a part of the donations I manage to collect.
If I reach my stretch fundraising goals of:
🐧 £1k – I will run the final 5k of my challenge dressed as a penguin! Obvious choice for me!
🏃🏻♀️🏃🏻♀️➡️ £1.5k - As well as a Christmas park run up north I’ll also do the New Year park run (again as a penguin) in Winchester
💪 £2k - An office visit in the penguin costume...
🐧 £3k - Office Christmas Party in the penguin costume..!
