As someone who has run 4 half-marathons but always said she would NEVER run a full marathon (why would anyone do that to their body??!!), I am as surprised as anyone to find myself signed up for Brighton Marathon 2024 (April 7th).  I lay much of the blame at the door of my old and dear friends from Birmingham University days, who will also be running Brighton, and who have provided much needed motivation and encouragement to get me to this point!!

I am also very grateful that as I approach 49, I am still able to run.  This is not the case for many, like my husband Doug who was diagnosed with MS in  2005, for whom running is a distant memory, and on bad days even walking can be a challenge.  Doug is one of the luckier ones, as for him the progression of this often devastating disease has been relatively slow, thanks perhaps in part to chance, but also likely as a result of the various drug treatments he has been able to access over the years through the public health systems of both the U.K. and more recently Germany. 

The work of the MS Society is vital for funding and promoting research into the development of new such treatments, and hopefully one day a cure for this disease, which affects around 1 in 500 people in the U.K. This amazing organisation also provides support and information to people affected by MS, and campaigns to raise awareness and improve care and support for those living with the condition.

Which is why I am asking for your kind sponsorship, by way of a donation to the MS Society.  Knowing that I am raising money for this cause with such personal significance for our family, will undoubtedly help spur me on, especially in those final dreaded miles!!
