Story

My mum, Theresa, did incredible voluntary work for the SVP over many years. This was in the time of Leo Edgar who gave my mum “special projects” which others’ had tried to do but failed. One notable thing mum did was to successfully reunite a mother and daughter after many years of estrangement. Mother and daughter met separately with Theresa at preparatory meetings. Then my mum facilitated the meeting where mother and daughter met for the first time in many years. Not only that , but the mother was introduced to her granddaughter which she had no knowledge of. What was very poignant about this was that the mother was dying of cancer, so those few months of reconciliation were so important. What amazes me is how mum did that over 50 years ago before the age of the internet and computers. Mum never boasted about her achievements, and there are many. She was totally trustworthy and confidential, but unassuming. What she did, many people don’t know about, including me. She never seeked recognition or reward. Others' happiness was enough.
