Zip line for The Kirkwood · 18 October 2024 ·

Are you ready to take on our brand new adrenaline fuelled challenge? Race your friends down one of the fastest ziplines, reaching speeds up to 100 mph+ at Zip World this October, in aid of The Kirkwood.

Story

I'm taking on the world's fastest zip line, 500m above the bright blue quarry lake of Penrhyn Quarry at Zip World in Wales. This is a huge challenge for me pushing me way out of my 'comfort zone'. But as I'm physically able to, I'm taking it on to raise as much money as I can to help fund the many amazing services that the local Hospice, The Kirkwood, offers and provides to all residents in the Kirklees Council area in West Yorkshire, living with a life-threatening/limiting illness, free of any charge to them.

This broad range of services provides support to patients and families at their hospice site in Dalton, Huddersfield on their in-patient unit and within the community for those who choose to remain in their own homes or care homes. Providing the highest quality care and support to those who need them most in the communities of Kirklees.

A few years ago my Dad was cared for in the Hospice In-patient Unit for 4 and half weeks. My Mum, Sister and the rest of our family and I, plus any of my parent's friends, were all able to be with him any time, day or night, for as long as we wanted and were able, no limitations. I was by his side at the time of his final passing. So we have experienced first-hand the absolutely wonderful care given by the nurses and clinical team and all of the other support services, however indirect.

My Mum sadly had to spend the last 7 months of her life in a Care and then Nursing Home. So the motivation and reason for this challenge to me is in memory of them both and as a huge thank you for the care, respect and dignity they both received.

Please help to give me the courage to try to overcome my fear factor by spurring me on by sponsoring me and thus helping to fund the continuance of all the Hospice services. A few of my friends have already sponsored me 'off-line', so please add to this to really spur me on.
