Virginia's Christmas Swim fundraiser for ME Research UK

Virginia Haydon is raising money for ME Research UK

Twelve Christmas dips to raise money for research into ME

ME Research UK exists solely to fund high quality biomedical studies into the causes and treatment of ME/CFS. This illness affects approximately 250,000 people in the UK but is neither well understood nor, in many cases, properly recognised. We fund highly regarded, peer-reviewed research worldwide.

Story

Twelve Dips of Christmas

Definitely questioning my sanity, as it pours with rain outside, but I've decided to challenge myself to take the plunge 12 times this December!

I only started open water swimming in August, and this will be the first time I've swum during winter, so it's a step into the unknown. One thing's for sure, it will be chilly. The lake water has already dropped to 5*C, and it's probably only going to go down from now on

But I'm really motivated to fundraise for research into ME/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, a little understood condition that can have such a big impact on so many people's lives - including my family's.

ME Research UK says "....doctors do not treat us and science does not study us. How could a disease this common and this devastating have been forgotten by medicine?" (Jennifer Brea)

Only biomedical research can find the causes of ME/CFS, improve diagnosis and treatment, and, ultimately, arrive at a cure. That’s why research is the charity's focus, but it is expensive and becoming more so every day.

Please help me support this great charity and help fund this important research.
