Story
For those who don't know, on New Year's Eve 2025, Aidan suffered a bad fall from our horse, which resulted in an unstable burst fracture of his L1 vertebra. The bone shattered into fragments which were directed towards and putting pressure on his spinal cord.
The ambulance arrived within five minutes of our call. Aidan was suitably tranquillised with a concoction of drugs before Rosie, Rebecca and Ben, the paramedics from the South East Coast Ambulance Service (SECAmb), carefully stabilised him and safely transported him to hospital. Their exceptional care ensured that no further damage was caused to his spinal cord, which could have resulted in long-lasting neurological issues.
After a tough night at the William Harvey Hospital, SECAmb once again provided excellent care when transporting Aidan to King's College Hospital.
Aidan is now almost back to full health. If it wasn't for the professionalism of the SECAmb staff, it is likely that things could have been very different.
To make use of my fully functional spine (and to raise money for a deserving cause), I'm going to be running the Kent Downs 50km Ultra Marathon on 10 October 2026 in support of the SECAmb Service NHS Foundation Trust Charitable Fund.
Any donation, big or small, would mean an enormous amount to both of us and will help support the incredible work that SECAmb do.
We also want to give a special shout-out to Paul, an off-duty police officer who happened to be at the yard when the accident happened. He ensured Aidan remained still and kept everyone calm until the ambulance arrived.
