Story
I am parecipating to "The Twilight Walk 2027" because I would like to raise awareness and encourage donations towards brain tumour research. Brain tumours are the biggest cancer killer of children and adults under 40.
I am particularly attached to this topic because a close member of my family is affected by glioblastoma, the most deadly brain cancer and one of the most aggressive and deadliest forms of cancer. After 5 years from the diagnosis, less than 5 to 7 % of the affected people survive.
Nowadays, no cure exists, and no effective prevention is possible. Even if it is discovered at an early stage and completely removed, the probability of recurrence is greater than 90 %.
For patients diagnosed with glioblastoma, it is not only about survival. The tumor can progressively take away a person's ability to do the things they used to do, affecting their independence, their personality and, ultimately, the person they are. It is an incredibly cruel disease.
Yet brain tumor research remains significantly underfunded compared with research into many other cancers.
Additionally, glioblastoma is so diverse that developing effective treatments is exceptionally difficult. This makes investment in this area particularly important: without sufficient research funding, there is little possibility of making the scientific progress that patients desperately need.
I would be very grateful if you could donate. Even a small contribution can help support research aimed at finding better treatments and, ultimately, a cure.
