ME Research UK exists solely to fund high quality biomedical studies into ME/CFS. Our funded research suggests that in excess of 400,000 people in the UK have ME/CFS but it is neither well understood nor, in many cases, properly recognised. We invest in the best research we can globally.

Story

Why ME?

Because I have friends (and also two of my Open University students) who have the condition. I am seeing what a devastating impact it can have on their lives, from being unable to work, study or do the sporting activities they previously loved, to being unable to even get out of bed on the worst days.

What am I doing?

Running round in circles for 24 hours continuously, on Friday 2nd to Saturday 3rd May, starting at 8.00am. Because I can. And I’m a bit strange 🤡

I’ll post updates here as to how the preparation is going!

"....doctors do not treat us and science does not study us. How could a disease this common and this devastating have been forgotten by medicine?" Jennifer Brea

Only biomedical research can find the causes of ME/CFS, improve diagnosis and treatment, and, ultimately, arrive at a cure. That’s why research is our focus.

We've awarded 64 full grants and 5 PhD-level awards since 2000 and invested over £3.5million. But research is expensive and becoming more so every day. That’s the challenge we face, and that’s why we need your help.
