Acorns supports more than 800 children and over 1,100 families every year. The charity needs to raise £14 million each year to provide its care services across hospices and community settings. Your support means Acorns can continue to be there for local families facing the unimaginable.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Thank you for visiting my JustGiving page.

When my wife and I were pregnant with our second daughter a close friend was expecting within a couple of weeks of us and everyone was suitably excited. It would be their 3rd child and the baby brother (Aum) to their two beautiful girls. Sadly at one of the early scans there was an abnormality and Aum was diagnosed with Fetal Akinesia Syndrome.  The news was devastating. The family were told that they would have a few hours or at the most a few days with Aum.

After a few short days Aum passed, but in that short time was able to touch many people, not least the other children he helped by donating organs. It was through this truly difficult time where they were supported by Acorns. The charity helped the family and many just like them to cope through unimaginably difficult times.

So in memory of Aum and in support of such a good cause, I have again decided to get in the saddle and raise money for charity and I figure, I should do it properly.

As some of you will know, I like to cycle, however like most rational people I dislike going up hill. So I have signed up for one of the most gruelling cycling events for this great cause - L’Etape du Tour on July 9th. https://www.letapedutourdefrance.com/en/the-race/route

This year L'etape is 157km with 4197 meters of climbing.

To put it in perspective The Three Peaks challenge is 3064 meters of climbing.  You would need to climb Snowdon twice after completing the other 2 mountains to accumulate the same vertical meters.

So please help me keep the memory of Aum alive, by supporting this wonderful charity.
