On January 31st I will be facing the freeze and taking the icy plunge for Crisis. I will be completing a charity swim at Tooting Bec Lido South London whilst experiencing temperatures expected to drop below 5 degrees in the unheated outdoor Lido.

The work Crisis do to help the homeless has always spoken to me on a deep level. This has been true even more so in the last year as I have battled a chronic and incurable illness. Even on my lowest days and in hours of desperation, I am eternally grateful to have a roof over my head, hot water and electricity and food in the fridge.

With Crisis, those who can only hope for such basic requirements are given a warm welcome, an assigned lead worker and the tools to rebuild their lives. The first priority of course is finding a safe home for those in need, but also providing long term help with finding work, reintegrating back into society and managing their new life. It gives those who are completely without hope the chance of a way out, with all the support and kindness they need and deserve.

For every pound Crisis receives in donations, 62p is spent on charity mission work, and 34p on the vital need to fundraise, which spreads the word and can affect greater change in laws and social policies. For every £1 spent on fundraising Crisis raises £3.24, a guaranteed promise, so you know exactly where your money is going, and why.
