Story
This year, the Waddlers are taking on the challenge of walking The Ullswater Way, a 22-mile circular route through the stunning Lake District. We are completing the challenge in honour of the incredible Ellerie Carroll and raising money for DIPG research through Billy’s Battalion.
DIPG is one of the most devastating forms of childhood cancer. It is an aggressive brain tumour which is currently incurable, with 90% of children sadly dying within two years of diagnosis. We want to help change that.
Ellerie was diagnosed with DIPG in September 2024. She underwent radiotherapy and took part in a groundbreaking treatment plan at Great Ormond Street Hospital, receiving two rounds of CAR-T infusions.
Although the treatment could not cure Ellerie, it gave her family precious extra time to make memories together. Sadly, in May 2026, aged just nine, Ellerie passed away.
We are raising money in Ellerie’s name for Billy’s Battalion, a registered charity dedicated to raising awareness of DIPG, funding better trials and treatments, and supporting research into finding a cure.
Billy’s Battalion was established in memory of Billy ‘the Brave’ Thompson, who was just four years old when he was diagnosed with DIPG. His tumour progressed rapidly, and he sadly passed away in March 2024 just before his 5th birthday.
Every donation to Billy’s Battalion helps fund research, raise awareness and support the search for better trials and treatments. Ultimately, the goal is to find a cure.
Please donate whatever you can. Every contribution, however small, will help support the fight for better treatments and help us remember Ellerie and Billy.
Thank you for your support.
