The Wakefield Children's Bed Appeal

Gleeds Manchester is raising money for Prosper Wakefield District
Over 6,000 children in the Wakefield district go to sleep every night without a bed to call their own. Our mission is simple but powerful: to ensure that every child in the Wakefield District has a comfortable bed to sleep in.

Story

Every child deserves a bed to sleep in.

Imagine trying to get through your day after a night spent on a cold, hard floor.

For too many children in Wakefield, this is their reality. A bed is more than just a piece of furniture – it’s a place where children can rest, dream, and feel safe.

Yet, over 6,000 children in the Wakefield district go to sleep every night without a bed to call their own. I believe that every child deserves better.

I know that a bed is a basic need that can have a huge impact on a child’s physical health, emotional well-being, and academic success. By providing a child with a bed, I'm not only giving them a good nights’ sleep, I'm giving them a good education, hope, a future, a routine and stability.

Event:

The Wakefield Trinity Community Foundation is inviting sponsors, partners and members of the Wakefield Community to come together to walk from Wakefield Trinity's DIY Kitchens Stadium to Castleford’s The Jungle Stadium ahead of their local derby clash on Friday 5th September 2025.

Those taking part will be encouraged to raise a minimum of £20 per person, which will go towards their match ticket, with the remainder being split between the Wakefield Trinity Community Foundation, and the Wakefield Children's Bed Appeal.

Participants will set off from the DIY Kitchen's Stadium around 4pm, with a 3.30pm arrival being encouraged, before starting their 8.2-mile hike through the Northern Villages, arriving in Castleford for approximately 7pm, with kick off at 8pm. (Don’t worry, there will be plenty of drink stops along the way!)
