Wal's fundraiser for Martineau Gardens

Wal Warmington is raising money for Martineau Gardens

Skyline London to Brighton Bike Ride · 14 September 2025 ·

Martineau Gardens is a beautiful therapeutic community garden and a charity, located two miles from Birmingham city centre. Martineau Gardens supports volunteers on the therapeutic horticulture programme to look after the 2.5 acre free-to-enter community garden, many of whom have mental health issues and learning disabilities. A team of volunteers welcome over 10,000 visitors each year who come to enjoy its peace and tranquillity and a further team helps out with special events and courses. Hundreds of school children visit the outdoor ‘classrooms’ to learn about the environment. The Gardens have been described by visitors as ‘an oasis of calm in the bustling city’ and as ‘Birmingham’s hidden gem’.

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page!

I'm excited to share that I will be participating in the Skyline London to Brighton Bike Ride on September 14, 2025, to support Martineau Gardens. This incredible charity provides a safe and welcoming space where adults, young people, and children can connect with nature and improve their wellbeing.

Martineau Gardens offers long-term social and therapeutic horticulture programs that help vulnerable individuals develop transferable skills. This includes those facing mental health challenges, brain injuries, Autism Spectrum Disorder, Special Educational Needs, or living with dementia. They also provide high-quality environmental education for school-aged children and engaging family activities that encourage outdoor play in a beautiful natural setting.

The gardens are managed with organic principles at their core, promoting biodiversity and sustainability while enhancing visitors' understanding of food growing and environmental care.Through my brother's volunteering activities, I've witnessed firsthand the transformative impact these gardens have on individuals through their welcoming approach.

Currently, they are raising funds for a new building to ensure this valuable community resource can continue serving the people of Birmingham and beyond. I am aiming to raise £1,000 for this cause because every contribution counts!
