Story
We are raising funds for Sepsis Research FEAT in memory of Harry Lownds who died suddenly and unexpectedly in 2019 as a result of suffering Septic Shock, the most acute form of Sepsis.
In the course of 2023 Harry's family and friends will be embracing a series of challenge walks totalling over 500 km. These begin with the 106 km Isle of Wight UltraChallenge on 29-30 April followed by 20 miles (32 km) for GlobalMile on 20 May, 26 miles (42 km) on what would have been Harry's 26th birthday on 23 June and another 100 km UltraChallenge through the Peak District on 8-9 July.
More information on other efforts to sustain Harry's memory, including the scholarship established at the University of Sussex in his memory, are on the blog www.harrylownds.org
Sepsis is the cause of one in five deaths around the world http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-51138859 and accounts for around 50,000 deaths in the UK every year - that's more than breast and bowel cancer combined.
We don't understand enough about sepsis and the biological processes that can lead to serious illness or even death. That is why we urgently need to increase funding:
- to raise awareness of sepsis
- for research: to understand the processes that lead to sepsis, to design effective treatments for it & to help save lives.
Sepsis Research FEAT is a registered charity (SC049399) and is the only UK charity dedicated to funding sepsis research.
