Story
Last summer, my beautiful sister Emi died of heart failure due to a drug overdose. She had been an addict for many years, but she never stopped wanting to get clean. The day she died, she mistakenly took a lethal mix of drugs which included protonitazine, a new synthetic drug nearly 100 times as powerful as heroin.
Turning Point was a charity that Emi often spoke about and sometimes turned to when things got tough and she wanted out. They work with addicts and aim to 'inspire and empower them to discover new possibilities in their lives'.
Ultimately, Turning point were not able to save Emi, but I hope they can go on to help many others like her. Addiction is such a cruel and misunderstood disease. Emi may have been an addict but she was also the most amazing person; she was kind, mischievous and funny. When I think of her, I think of her laugh, and the twinkle in her eye. I miss her more than I can explain.
In her memory, on Saturday 21st September, the day before Emi's birthday, three of my best friends and I are going to walk the canal from close to my house in Datchet to close to hers in Ladbroke Grove. That's over 20 miles. Florence Urling Clark, Christelle Randall and Susannah Patton all knew Emi well and have been so supportive over the last very difficult year.
Please help us to raise awareness of addiction and raise funds for Turning Point.
