Story
On Saturday 8th August (a poignant anniversary), we’re walking from Weston Park Cancer Hospital to Hope (and back, hopefully) to raise money for the amazing charity.
Some people know, others don’t.
In August 2024, I found out I had a sizeable brain tumour, and it’s been a bit of a wild ride since.
We’re walking to Hope to give more people hope. Hope for more cures, for more treatment, and as a reminder that there is still life after a life-changing diagnosis.
It’ll be 26 miles in dedication to what has felt like a bloody marathon and the people who got us through it.
The aim is to raise as much money for Weston Park Cancer Hospital as somewhere that has become very close to our hearts in the last 18 months.
I found my tumour coincidentally, with every chance I could have had it for up to 10 years. I’m very lucky that it was benign, but this isn’t the case for everyone.
Despite this, they couldn’t get it all out in the surgery, so I’ve had to have a whole cocktail of treatments since to try and stop it growing back.
30 sessions of radiotherapy and 9 months of chemotherapy. After a 9-hour brain surgery in March 2025.
It’s been bloody hard, but I’m so lucky that I was under the care of Weston Park. Advice whenever I need it and the best care I could ask for, making a bloody hard situation a hell of a lot easier.
They’re now hoping to get Sheffield its first ever MRI simulator cancer scanning machine, which will speed up recovery, limit side effects and improve outcomes. There are only five across the country, and they’re so close to their fundraising target.
It’s something that I might end up using later down the road, and it’s something that will benefit a lot of people who are in the thick of it right now.
Any donations, no matter how big or small, would be greatly appreciated!
P.S. photo is from a personal photoshoot when I was 6 hours out of brain surgery... shout out to the nurse who gave me my phone while high-as-a-kite!
