Walking Home for Jen š§” Ā· 15 April 2025
Here we go again š§”
So for the next challenge it was my turn (Lydia) to pick, which obviously was a very easy one as it was always going to be for 'Alzehimers Research' because of the journey I've been through with my dear little mum. The hard part was deciding what to do as I knew I wanted a big challenge and felt we had exhausted the mountain challenges...... so our lovely Laura had a brain wave which actually made me cry because of the bigger meaning behind it š„¾š„¾š„¾
So next April in the Easter Holidays, myself and my dear friend Laura will be enduring probably one of our hardest and biggest challenges to date. We will be setting off on foot from South Wales and heading to Frome where I lived with mum near 'The Mount' in Frome Somerset. This walk will be broken down over 5 days and we will be covering approximately 100 miles. Its going to be an emotional one as it is so personal to me, but I wouldn't want to do the challenge with anyone other than these guys 𤯠š§”
So why 'Alzehimers Research'? As mentioned above, and I'm sure most of you are aware my mum was diagnosed with Alzehimers back in 2006 (58 yrs old) after spending two years of her life in an assessment unit (it still baffles me to this day how that ever happened!) I won't go in to the ins and outs but it's been an absolutely heart wrenching experience for myself and my brother. We are at the last stage of dementia with mum which is extremely hard and painful to see. I described the feeling to my brother just two weeks ago when we left the carehome....It feels everytime I leave like someone has ripped a little bit more of my heart away from my body š. So this challenge has definitely come at the right time for me. Its been so long now 18 years infact. I appreciate there is nothing that can be done now, but what I can do is help raise a 'whopping' amount to help with the research for Alzehimers in hope that one day they find a cure for this cruel disease dubbed as the 'silent killer'.
So it's over to all you lovely lot now to dig deep and help smash the target š to help make a difference hopefully for future generations to come š§”
Thank you all from the bottom of our hearts ā¤ļø
