Walk for Tom - Three Peaks Edition
On Saturday 17 August 2024 Holly and Tim Walker will be taking on the National Three Peaks Challenge - climbing the highest peak in Scotland, England and Wales - Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Yr Wyddfa/Snowdon respectively - in 24 hours.
We're doing this to raise money for Tom's Fund at Cancer Research Wales. The fund is in memory of Tim's son and Holly's brother, Tom, who died of acute myeloid leukaemia in June 2018 at the age of 13. Three months before he died (and before we knew he had leukaemia) Tom and Tim completed the Brecon Beacon Night Hike and raised £700 for Cancer Research Wales. After Tom died we decided to continue fundraising in his memory. Over the years we and hundreds of friends, relations, colleagues and people from our local community have raised money for Tom's Fund in many ways, including swimathons, busking, rowing, hiking, running in marathons, selling cakes and most bizarrely pedaling a pedalo the whole length of Loch Ness.
So far Tom's Fund has funded a PhD studentship researching a treatment for acute myeloid leukaemia and two novel projects researching brain tumours and we aim to keep funding original research.
